Horizons : Community Resource Directory Connects Families To Services

Problem:
An identified need that surfaced from the Marble Rock and Rockford Study Circles was a lack of information about where to find services and programs.

Response:
The two communities worked together to create a single brochure listing all programs and services that would be easy and inexpensive to disperse, duplicate and update. Realizing that prosperous families make for a viable school district which in turn supports successful communities, the group decided to include Rudd, serving all families located in the Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock school district.

Impact:
Study Circle participants emphasized the need for communication, resource sharing and reciprocal relationships between the three communities and were proud of the success in their first attempt of the inclusive and effective network. Their attempt at a holistic approach to the development of community capacity and networking resulted in a much needed service to all community members.

The brochures will be included with the monthly school calendar at the start of the 2007 school year, which is mailed to every home in the RRMR school district. Additional copies of the brochure are available in all churches, city halls, laundry mats, restaurants, realtors, banks, and businesses. Electronic copies will be posted on the community web pages making it easy for anyone to print copies as needed.
