Money Talk: A Financial Guide For Women
Problem:
Women live longer than men; average age of widowhood in the US is 56. Women as a group earn less money than men. Women leave the workforce more often to care for children or aging family members.
Response:
Based on an identified need in Woodbury County and Emmet County for financial education, we planned & implemented a five session series Money Talk: A financial program for women. Speakers included ISUE staff and local professionals. Topics were financial basics, insurance basics, investment basics, investing for retirement, and planning ahead for future events.
Impact:
Attendance was 20 women in Sioux City and 13 in Estherville. The evaluations from the programs indicate women who attended have set up effective spending plans and track their expenses, assessed their insurance coverage and made changes; taken steps to reduce debt; have updated their wills; and have looked into their retirement plans.
