Supporting
Community Agencies
Problem:
FaDSS
Coordinator June West was in need of education programs for the staff
at the MATURA agency. Their jobs involve working with low income families
to help them with energy assistance, housing assistance and improve
the quality of their lives.
Response:
Four
topic areas were selected for review and current updates. The topics
requested included financial management, housing options, credit, and
identity theft. Each program was completed during staff meetings at
the MATURA office in Creston.
Impact:
Eight
employees completed the four programs during the months of October,
November, December, and January. In April a follow up survey was sent
for their completion. They shared the following comments:
Budget forms and
materials were very helpful. Fifty families were required to complete
budgets for two energy assistance programs. The examples shared were
very appropriate for their use
.
Tax materials and Medicare D information was used by them and shared
with clients.
All participants had changed some of their own personal financial practices
as a result of the program discussions.
They are currently using Extension materials for life skills classes.
