Child Care That Works
Problem:
Home and community daycare providers are in need of training opportunities to earn Continuing Education Credits as well as learn new strategies for dealing with children. These sessions need to be convenient for them, time and location wise.
Response:
The “Child Care That Works” series was offered at the Extension office in Osage for all child care providers. Program brochures were sent to child care providers listing dates, times and topics. Sessions offered in 2004-2005 were:
- See as a Child, Feel as a Child
- The Ins and Outs of Good Circle Times
- A Key to Quality Child Care…Implementing, Supporting, & Using Good Child Observations
- Easy Ways to Boost Kids’ Brain Power
- Changing Spaces
Impact:
There were 42 contacts with day care providers and their staff through this program in 2004-05 compared to 20 contacts in 2003-04! This is an increase of 110%.
Participants appreciated the local access as well as the usefulness of the topics.
A community daycare administrator has already asked for the 2005-06 schedule so that her staff can reserve the dates.
