Navigating Mid-Life

Problem:
There are unique health needs that occur during mid-life. A large segment of the population, the 'baby-boomers' are reaching mid-life and would benefit from information to address these new health issues.

Response:
ISU Extension Families staff in NE Iowa created Navigating Mid-Life, a series of four workshop sessions for this age group. The series was piloted in Franklin county and attended by 11 individuals. The series will be marketed to other counties in the future.

Impact:
Six participants completed evaluations following the nutrition session, indicating plans to:

  • I will watch my fat consumption better.
  • Eat healthy, exercise and slow down to enjoy life and take time for me.
  • Eat more whole grains and soy foods.
  • Pass the information on to students and staff I work with and use the information personally.
  • Eat more fruits, take calcium and exercise more.
  • Eat more consciously.
