Iowa 4-H Now on Pinterest
AMES, Iowa – According to a report from Experian Hitwise, Pinterest is now the number three most-popular social network in the United States. Iowa 4-H recently created a 4-H page on the Pinterest website, http://pinterest.com/iowa4h/. The page has 49 boards with 96 pins.
“We created the 4-H page on Pinterest for anyone who wants to learn more about 4-H projects or the 4-H program in general,” said Shelly Greving, marketing director for Iowa State University Extension and Outreach 4-H Youth Development. “This is a great source for kids as well as volunteers and leaders to collect ideas for their 4-H projects.”
The latest social network is growing tremendously. The Iowa 4-H page contains 49 boards on many topics, including:
- agriculture
- communication
- engineering
- environment and sustainability
- food and nutrition
- music
- livestock
- robotics
- woodworking
There are also special interest boards for 4-H camp and 4-H clubs. These boards give visitors a chance to learn more about these 4-H outreach efforts and collect ideas to improve their club and camping experiences, noted Greving.
Initially, the page will connect users to 4-H curriculum and resources. Then, over the summer, more resources will be added to the boards that will help youth explore projects further.
“We see Pinterest as a great fit for 4-H because of the ability to share ideas and projects,” Greving said. “However when you use Pinterest, you must also be aware of copyright issues. If you want to copy a project from 4-H or from any other source and add it to your Pinterest page, be sure to cite the originator of the content, the original source.”
