Workshop Explores Functional Anatomy of the Horse
AMES, Iowa – The Master Equine Manager Program is offering a functional anatomy workshop for equine owners and professionals. This Iowa State University Extension and Outreach educational opportunity will be a guided dissection of a horse. The workshop will be held Friday, Jan. 25 from 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
“The workshop is a fantastic way to learn how the horse functions,” said Peggy Miller-Auwerda, extension equine specialist. “It is a dynamic educational experience in equine anatomy and how the structure of a horse relates to function.”
The course will look at the digestive system to understand why a horse requires the feedstuffs it does and why a horse gets colic. Participants will see how large a horse’s heart is and understand how that affects cardiovascular function. The respiratory system will be evaluated for a better understanding of how the horse breathes and transports oxygen to the tissues. Lower leg anatomy will be assessed including location of the tendons and ligaments. Additional topics will be addressed at the workshop.
Advance online registration is required. Online registration is found at http://www.extension.iastate.edu/masterequine.
