Goals set by participants in the year 3 trip (cont.)

The goal should result in increased Latino audiences for Extension programming. Will work the Neighborhood Centers to assess need for programming specifically for Spanish speaking participants. (Jan Temple)

I will incorporate pictures and items to help increase awareness of the differences in our every day experiences. I will explain the food process in Mexico and why we as Americans value the food safety process. (Sandra McLain)

Put in place a Cultural Diversity Committee that will assist me with identifying needs, program planning and seek funds to serve the immigrant population in Floyd County.

Identify and recruit a volunteer to man a Cultural Diversity Center in our office where people can come for information and assistance.  This person will have a computer and have access to translated publication to help them better their lives. Create a cultural day that celebrates the homelands of the citizens in Floyd County. (Brenda Schmitt)

Increase awareness of Mexican culture to community youth.  -Set up a "cuture" kit---will have cultural artifacts and activities to go with them;  can be used in classroom or day camp setting. Work with setting up a literacy program; to help Hispanic parents read to their children; partner w/library, schools, church to organize. (Nancy Schmidt)

Review the "community voices" program that has been offered in Storm Lake , coordinate a review panel, possibly revise the planning committee to help make the program more accessible and relevant to the new residents to increase the participation. Another goal would be to increase my Spanish speaking skills through self-study. (Rhonda Christensen)

My program goal is to speak about what I have learned with as many groups as will have me.  I will be talking to our community college class organizer (in the community) about how best to reach businesses and organizations in the community...perhaps offer some lunch and learn sessions.  I want to be able, then, to track connections community people have with Hispanics and find where there potential for programming opportunities exist. (Vanette Grover)

Creation of a culture kit to use with audiences in the Central Iowa Area.
Identification and sharing of materials to use with Hispanic families and youth for Youth Staff via web, e-mail and other. (Judy Levings)

Now have Latino graduate student.  Working on translations of consumer protection factsheets and conference bringing together Latino groups in our state. (Karen Goebel)
