Why are we moving to new software for county accounting?
County Extension Education Directors and Bookkeepers requested us to look at new software.
Software development has provided significant enhanced capabilities since the implementation of Quicken 98.
The State of Iowa auditor noted the current Quicken 98 system does not provide an acceptable audit trail.
Quicken 98 does not have an integrated payroll module. Payroll is currently a separate system which means duplicate entry. The risk of error on duplicate entry systems is very high which means that accurate reporting is also at risk.
Year-end central reporting is not integrated – each counties year-end report is hand entered into a consolidated report. There is significant risk of error and incorrect reporting of the counties financial condition.
County Council members have voiced frustration over the current management reports that the Quicken 98 system provides. They believe that the Quicken 98 reports do not provide essential management information and are difficult to read and understand.
