WHAT'S NEW
Extension staff photo procedure changes
ISU Photo Service closed on Nov. 16. However, ISU Extension staff still may have their portraits taken by a campus photographer. The minimum time will be charged to your county/area or campus department. To schedule a sitting, call Grant Steinfeldt at (515) 294-3223. Tell him you are with Extension and that your prints should be sent to Jeanette Foshee, CECS, 3614 ASB, for filing. (We still will maintain these photo files and distribute prints.) When you arrive for your scheduled sitting, check in at Instructional Technology Center (ITC), 1200 Communications Building.Other photo services also change
Because ISU Photo Service closed, several services the office had provided are now being handled differently.
- Film, photo supplies and film processing are being handled by the University Book Store, Memorial Union.
- ISU photo archives will be maintained by ITC. A reduced user fee schedule for images in the archive will be announced in early January. The university's historical archive remains at Parks Library.
- For on-location or studio photography, call ISU photographer Bob Elbert, (515) 294-4053. The hourly fee will be paid by the requester.

UPDATES
BLS Across Iowa is cooperative Regents project
Iowa's three Regents universities -- Iowa State University, the University of Iowa, and the University of Northern Iowa -- are cooperatively offering upper level undergraduate courses on the Iowa Communications Network (ICN) for the Bachelor of Liberal Studies (BLS). The universities have promoted the courses and program and also have collaborated with selected Iowa community colleges to alert their students. ISU is working with Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) at Ankeny. The first cooperative courses were offered fall semester 2001.Two BLS courses via ICN are offered on Monday and Wednesday evenings each fall and spring semester. One course is offered each summer. Spring 2002 BLS across Iowa courses are:
- from UNI, 960:130g History of Iowa
- from ISU, HD FS 373 Death as a Part of Living
For more information, check the BLS information on the CECS Web site (http://www.lifelearner.iastate.edu/degree/blsai.htm).
Contact University Conference Services (UCS)
CECS University Conference Services (UCS) supports ISU's mission of learning, discovery and engagement through its coordination of conferences, events and programs. UCS business focuses primarily on ISU faculty, staff, departments or offices that sponsor or co-sponsor educational programs - regardless of program format and location. UCS also markets the appeal of ISU as an event site with external clients who are not affiliated with ISU but wish to use ISU facilities or services. QUICK TIPS
Use Microsoft Office at home through special arrangement
The Iowa State University Microsoft Campus Agreement contains a Work at Home Rights (WAHR) option for eligible faculty and staff. The WAHR option allows eligible ISU faculty and staff to use the Microsoft Office Suite on a personally-owned computer. However, under WAHR, faculty and staff members may use Microsoft Office for work-related use only.Check the Web for details of the Work at Home Rights option (http://www.mca.iastate.edu/wahr-el-dist.doc).
ISU Extension field staff are eligible for WAHR. Currently, ISU Extension field staff can pick up a copy of the Microsoft Office Suite at the Microcomputer Product Center located on campus in 191 Durham Center. You will need to sign a copy of the eligibility form (http://www.mca.iastate.edu/work-at-home.pdf) and pay a $20 fee after showing your university ID card.
Extension field staff have another option for receiving the Microsoft Office Suite. Extension Distribution Center is prepared to distribute the media to ISU Extension field staff in the following manner.
- You will need to fax a signed copy of the eligibility form (http://www.mca.iastate.edu/work-at-home.pdf) to EDC to verify your eligibility. EDC's fax number is (515) 294-2945.
- EDC will ship the media to your county office along with a copy of your signed eligibility form.
- EDC will bill your county office the $20.00 processing/media fee.
- You will need to make arrangements to reimburse your office for the $20 payment.
