4-H Legislative Day

Iowa 4-H'ers Meet State Legislators, Tour Capitol
Some 200 Iowa 4-H'ers and volunteers spent March 26, 2008, meeting their legislators, learning about the legislative process and showcasing 4-H community service during 4-H Day at the Legislature.

Legislators joined the 4-H'ers for an omelet breakfast sponsored by the Iowa Egg Council. After a morning of legislative workshops, the 4-H'ers went to the Capitol to display service projects in the Rotunda, visit legislative sessions, and tour the Capitol and the Supreme Court.

To conclude the day, youth and adults gathered outside the Capitol for an ending rally led by Iowa's Deputy Secretary of agriculture Karey Claghorn. With the challenge of jackhammer noise in the background, Claghorn challenged 4-H'ers to, "Tell the agricultural story to those who don't understand, because it needs to continue."
