Late 1960s - early 1970s. 4-H moves into urban areas, bringing a "can do" spirit and sense of self worth to inner city youngsters. Creation of EFNEP (Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program) in 1969 leads to EFNEP-4-H, which brings fun and knowledge about healthy foods to low resource youngsters and, consequently, to their parents. Shown here are some forerunners of the EFNEP-4-H movement in Burlington, Iowa. Youth learn cooking, sewing, woodworking, gardening and recreation skills.
