Our typical enrollment period is from September 15th through May 15th.  Find out how you can get enrolled so you may fully participate!  Click here for more information about 4-H! 4-H is a program offered for youth in the 4th through the 12th grades.

Pick a club.

Youth in grades 4-12 may choose a club based on location, age or special interest.  If club leader information is not available, please contact the County Youth Coordinator.  We are happy to assist you in contacting a club leader.  It is important that you make contact with the club leaders, as they can give you specific information about the club such as meeting times, special club rules and whether they are already at full membership.

Register.

Our typical enrollment/re-enrollment period is from September 5th through December 15th. New members can enroll through May 15th.  The 4-H Online database is the method for Online Registration.  The database tells the club leader and the Extension office who you are, where you live, and what your project interests are.  Need Online help instructions - click here.  There is also an annual program fee of $30 to enroll in Emmet County 4-H ($20 payable by the family and $10 from the generosity of MaxYield.)  Currently we don't have the ability to accept payment online.  This fee helps to support the county state 4-H program.  If you feel that this fee would constitute an undue financial burden, financial aid is available from the Iowa 4-H Foundation by visiting their website.

You should spend some time familiarizing yourself with the 4-H program.  Look for a project in your interest areas by checking in the Pick Your Adventure Guide and check out 4-H Project Hot Sheets and consider attending the NEW 4-H member pizza party and information meeting held in January.  Check our calendar for more information about upcoming 4-H workshops and events throughout the year.

If you would like to be in the Emmet County 4-H Shooting Sports group in 2015, call today to reserve your spot (362- 3434)! The group will be meeting March through September, either at the Gruver Community Center (if bad weather) or the Izaak Walton League shooting range. The group practices with archery, air rifles, muzzleloaders, and shot guns (for age 12 and up). They also learn about safety, how to clean equipment used, and more. Group size is limited, so if you are interested, call or email today. Even if you were in the group last year, we need to know if you plan to participate again this year. New members are also welcome! All youth in 4th through 12th grade who are current 4-H members in Emmet County are eligible. All new members would begin in March and must attend safety discussions before practicing with equipment. All guns and archery supplies are provided.

Emmet County started up a new 4-H project group focused on cooking food last year. This group experiments using different types of ingredients different types of food! They also are learning food safety and the proper way to use kitchen utensils, gadgets, and appliances. The goal for 2015 will be to get a trio or two of 4-H’ers from the group to compete in the “Cook This!” 4-H Culinary Challenge at the state level next August. 4-H VOLUNTEERS

Interested in becoing a 4-H volunteer?

We need to meet our potential volunteers before we can send them out to serve the youth in Emmet County.  You will need to schedule a time to come and meet with our 4-H staff at the Extension Office.  At this meeting we will answer all of your questions, provide you with the necessary materials to do your job, and acquaint you with our office.  Our Coordinator is just a phone call or e-mail away.!

Iowa Ag Secretary Bill Northey and farmer Nate Anderson were guest experts in the Farm Progress Show tent organized by Iowa State University. They shared their management strategy experiences and listened as farmers talked about management practices for their own farms.
