4-H Clover Knowledge Escapade Winner Announced
The 2014 4-H Clover Knowledge Escapade, communications contest, was held on Sunday, March 16th at the United Methodist Church in Estherville.  Communications skills are very important to the 4-H program and are commonly credited by 4-H alumni as being one of the best things that 4-H taught them.  Participants in 5th grade and up were eligible to be selected to advance on to exhibit in the state communications event at the Iowa State Fair.  Youth in 4th grade and up were eligible to be selected to advance on to exhibit in the district communication event at the Clay County Fair.
 
The first set of 4-H’ers gave educational presentations to the audience, which are formal speeches that teach and inform about a topic or demonstrate something to the audience.  Awards were presented to the following for their Educational Presentations:
IOWA STATE FAIR SELECTIONS:
-Ethan  “Attracting Backyard Birds in Winter”
              -Ruth  “Guidelines for Interacting with Manatees”
              -Alexa  “Horse Tack”
              -Izaak  “History of Hoops”
              -Emma & Natalie  “Charging Stations”
IOWA STATE FAIR ALTERNATES:
              -Rylan  “Visual Memory Strategy”
              -Cecelia  “Making Simple Crazy Loom Bracelets without a Loom”
              -Ryanna  “How to Make an Edible Arrangement of Flowers”
CLAY COUNTY FAIR SELECTION:
              -Abby  “Gymnastics, A Sport To Flip About”
CLAY COUNTY FAIR ALTERNATE:
              -Morgan  “Caring For Rabbits”
 
Share-The-Fun acts were presented, with a goal of showing that 4-H is Fun!  4-H’es are invited to share their talents in this category.  Awards were presented to the following for their Share the Fun Act:
IOWA STATE FAIR SELECTIONS:
              -Ruth & Ethan  “He’s A Pirate” Tap Dance
              -Cecelia  “That Power” Hip Hop Dance
CLAY COUNTY FAIR SELECTION:
              -Taylor , Elizabeth , Adelee , Abby , Riley , & Alexa  “Cooks In the Kitchen” Hip Hop Dance
 
The last set of participants set up tables around the room and presented their Working Exhibits for all participants in attendance to stop by and try.  The goal of a Working Exhibit is to teach passer-bys and possibly have something that they can take with them that they have made or learned.  Awards were presented to the following for their Working Exhibit:

              -Ruth  “How to Make a Yarn Ball Cat Toy”
