Restaurants, grocery stores, and other food establishments operating in Iowa will be subject to updated food safety standards effective January 1, 2014, under rules recently adopted by the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals (DIA). “The updated rules focus on making Iowa’s food regulations consistent with current scientific evidence and preventing foodborne illness,” DIA Food and Consumer Safety Bureau Chief Steven Mandernach said.

Seventeen women successfully completed thesix-week Annie’s Project course that was offered this spring in Armstrong. . This program offered through Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in Emmet and Palo Alto counties empowers women to be better agricultural business partners and owners.

The 2015 Emmet County 4-H Clover Knowledge Escapade, communications contest, was held on Sunday, March 29th at the United Methodist Church in Estherville.  Communication skills are very important to the 4-H program and are commonly credited by 4-H alumni as being one of the best things that 4-H taught them.  Participants in 5th grade and up were eligible to be selected to advance on to exhibit in the state communications event at the Iowa State Fair.  Youth in 4th grade and up were eligible to be selected to advance on to exhibit in the district communication event at the Clay County Fair.
