Youth in Grades 4-8

Marsville is an experiential project that asks youth to create a new human world, a settlement on Mars. This scientific and mathematical based simulation experience stresses communication and problem solving skills. This twelve week project involves youth working in teams of 5 to 7 in "base operations" in their classroom or meeting location and then combining with other teams of youth to participate in a link-up day experience to create a full scale Mars city.

Base Operations--teams of 5 to 7 students

• learn exciting science and mathematics facts
• research new information
• create imaginative life support systems based on facts
• make their own decisions and create answers to problems
• work cooperatively as part of a team
• use technology to learn and communicate with others
• utilize community resources to help understand concepts

Marsville Link-up Day--student teams will join together from other schools/organizations to create habitat crews who will:

• construct habitats designed through prior communication from base schools
• present research results
• evaluate and share their ideas, systems, and problem-solving success
• link their habitats to form the "Cosmic Village' and walk through the self-contained village from one habitat to the next
