Hands-on Science and Math

Youth in grades 4-8

Funtivities is a project designed for use in nonformal education settings with a focus on:

Youth Activity Guide Level One for grades 4-5 provides 16 experiential activities related to electricity, magnets, air pressure, and mathematics.

Youth Activity Guide Level Two provides 16 experiential activities related to electricity, magnets, friction, density, chemistry, and math.

An accompanying Helpers Guide includes information on youth development, experiential learning, gender equity, and background on each science and math concept.

Funtivities is part of the project, Linking Girls and their Technological Futures thorugh Informal Science funded by the National Science Foundation. Partners in the project are the ISU Program for Women in Science and Engineering, Moingona Girl Scout Council, ISU E-SET Initiative, and the Boddy Media Group.

There are at least 3 Funtivities kits located in each of the 5 extension areas. Contact your local county extension office or the E-SET office to get information on reserving a kit for check-out.
