Become a Fruit TreeKeeper in Dubuque and gain hands-on experience caring for fruit and nut trees! Fruit TreeKeepers learn about tree biology, planting & maintenance, fruit & nut tree varieties, organic management & care, and harvesting techniques. August 24th and 31st at the Dubuque Arboretum. 6-8pm.

Dubuque County Master Gardener “Lunch n’ Learn” talk on Wednesday, September 2nd, 12:15 – 1:00pm, at the Multicultural Family Center about season extension.
Techniques such as fall plantings, succession planting, row covers, hoop houses, and cold frames will be discussed. Participants are welcome to bring their own suggestions and experiences with season extension to share with the group. Resources on how to implement these techniques will be shared at the talk.

Cindy Baumgartner, Nutrition and Wellness Specialist and Master Food Safety Advisor, will introduce and teach the basics of canning, freezing, and dehydrating food during the two-hour “Food Preservation 101” class to be presented from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on August 17.

Those with an interest in gardening who would like to volunteer in the community are encouraged to join the 2015 Dubuque County Master Gardener program. Both long-time gardeners and inexperienced beginners are welcome to join!
