: Tree Planting Workshop

: Planning on adding a new tree to your yard? Learn best practices and how a new tree can reduce your energy costs. Reserve your place before March 30 by calling Trish or Tyler at the Dubuque County ISU Extension office at 563-583-6496. Master Gardeners, tell Trish or Tyler if you are willing to lead a team of 4 in planting two or more trees - or if you - ™d just like to be on a team. WORKSHOP AGENDA Presentations start at 9:30 am on the Mt. Pleasant Home campus at the north end of Mt. Pleasant Street just off Loras Boulevard. The first half hour will be an indoor presentation on tree and site selection, the values of diversity, energy saving from trees, and the importance of mulching and maintenance - “ especially the first two years. Then we will move outdoors for a final demonstration and then match teams with tools, trees, and planting sites. Each team leader will have a checklist to follow. The workshop will end around 11 am. If it rains, the indoor workshop time will be extended. RESOURCES Literature, PC - ™s demonstrating interactive web resources, and tree experts will all be available to provide more resources and answer questions. SUPPORT This workshop is sponsored by Trees Forever on the Mt. Pleasant Home campus. Alliant Energy and Black Hills Energy have supplied the funding to purchase the trees. The Dubuque County ISU Extension, Loras College students, and members of the Green Iowa Americorps are supporting each tree-planting team. Your interest and support is welcomed.
