Become a Dubuque County Master Gardener
MASTER GARDENER TRAINING 2015
Master Gardeners are individuals who have an interest in horticulture, have taken the Master Gardener training offered by Iowa State University Extension, and share their time and expertise with other gardeners. It is the acquisition of knowledge, the skill in gardening, and giving back to the community that distinguishes a Master Gardener from other gardeners.
Becoming a Master Gardener has countless benefits. In addition to gaining horticulture and gardening knowledge through our training program, our Master Gardeners have made lasting friendships, learned new skills and practices, had the opportunity to teach, and get the privilege of being a part of a highly esteemed organization in our community.
“My knowledge is valued by others that I share it with.”
“I have become a composter!”
“I enjoy giving back to the community and helping others.”
“I have made life long friends.”
During the training several current Master Gardeners and Extension specialists will be on hand to answer questions and deliver training sessions about houseplants, vegetables, and herbaceous ornamentals. Other sessions will be brought to the Dubuque County Extension Conference Center through Adobe Connect distance learning technology including sessions about botany and soils, landscape plants, entomology, fruit culture, turf grass, and landscape design. One class will be held at Iowa State University Campus in Ames on October 10 or 24th.
Our next training will start on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at 6:00pm. Classes will be held most Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Dubuque County Extension Office from 6:00 - 9:30pm. A full-day education session in Ames will take place on Saturday, October 10th or October 24th. The final class will be Tuesday, November 17th.
The charge for the class is $195 including all sessions and materials (if registered by the deadline of August 1st, 2015). Late registration fee is $245. All first-year Master Gardeners who complete their requirements and 40 hours of service will get a Master Gardener polo and name badge.
