Jim Theisen Receives Friend of Extension Award

Dubuque County ISU Extension & Outreach has given Jim Theisen the annual Friend of Extension Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the mission of ISU Extension & Outreach and Dubuque County 4-H.

The success of Extension & Outreach programs depends upon broad-based support in the community, and for decades Theisen has raised money and built partnerships that strengthen youth development in Dubuque County.  For 28 years he has sponsored a Pasture Pool event that brings the agricultural community together for a steak dinner and golf, and the proceeds are all generously donated to Dubuque County 4-H.  Theisen is also very supportive of the 4-H auction at the Dubuque County Fair and other activities that foster youth development and beginning farmers.

Theisen joined other community members in support of the referendum in 2010 to increase funding for Dubuque County Extension activities.  His leadership on this effort helped pass the referendum, ensuring that all citizens of Dubuque County have access to Extension’s wide range of educational, research-based programming.

“I was taught by my parents that you must give back to your community – that’s my philosophy,” said Theisen.  The Dubuque County Extension Council recognized this generosity and leadership through this award and appreciates his long-term dedication to the mission of Extension & Outreach in Dubuque County.
