May 22, 2015

The Dubuque County Youth Staff is sad to report that the 2015 Dubuque County Fair 4-H/FFA Poultry Show has been cancelled by the Iowa Turkey Federation along with the Iowa Poultry Association due to the H5N2 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI).  This cancellation includes all live bird exhibitions at county fairs, the Iowa State, and other gatherings of birds due to the avian influenza.

Young farmers who depend on pasture to support their livestock operation will benefit from attending the Grassroots Grazing program.  This three part program starting on June 22nd includes pasture walks at three different sites throughout the summer and will address setting livestock enterprise goals, selecting an appropriate grazing system, developing pasture improvement plans, managing grass height, results of adequate rest, fencing, watering, weed management and extending grazing.

Dairy producers are invited to the Four-State Dairy Nutrition and Management Conference held at the Grand River Center in Dubuque, IA. The conference will address the latest research information on dairy industry issues and is sponsored by Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois and Iowa extension agencies.

April 27, 2015

Each year during Extension and Outreach Week the Dubuque County Extension Council gives the Friend of Extension Award to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the Extension mission. Marvin Stoffel received the award this year to recognize the leadership he has provided to Master Gardener volunteers and the connections he has made between Master Gardeners and other Extension programs.
