Community Service

AmeriCorps means Community Service.  The Dubuque Partners In Learning AmeriCorps project engages in a number of annual planned Community Service events.  Members provide service as part of Martin Luther King Day, Make a Difference Day and Volunteer Week activities.

Placement at St. Joseph the Worker School

Community Service - Martin Luther King Jr. Day Project: AmeriCorps volunteers had a variety of activities for students of all ages to attend at area schools.  Another member and myself were involved in an art project for students in grade K-3.  The project was done in two sessions each session was 45 minutes long.  We started out in a group on the carpet and discussed the purpose of the day and who Martin Luther King Jr. was.  The instructions and a sample art project were exhibited and then the students were asked to complete their own.  The children really seemed to absorb the meaning of the day and had fun too.
