"Juntos: Together for a Better Education" is a 6-session course that helps Latino families create educational goals and explore options for higher education.  The course will take place at Cascade High School starting October 5th. Each class includes a meal, childcare for younger siblings, and family-centered activities for 7th, 8th, 9th, or 10th grade students and their parents.  This program is free for all participants.

The 28th Annual Tri-State Agriculture Lenders’ Seminar will be held on Wednesday, October 29th at the Midway Best Western Hotel in Dubuque, Iowa from 9:45 am – 3:00 pm.  This year’s focus is on market outlooks for livestock, grains and dairy along with the issues of crop budgeting, crop insurance and the farm bill.

As part of the Agricultural Act of 2014, the Margin Protection Program (MPP) provides a new safety net program for dairy producers.  It will provide payments when a national benchmark for dairy income minus feed costs falls below coverage levels producers select. Several meetings will be held across Iowa to educate producers and related persons regarding the Farm Bill programs and decisions. The Dubuque County meeting is in Holy Cross on September 17th.

Come support a great cause! The Dubuque County Youth Leaders will be having a Steak Fry Fundraiser on Sunday, September 14th from 5:00 pm to 8:30 pm at Neumann’s Bar & Grill. Proceeds benefit Happy Feet, our 4-H Youth Leaders’ project to buy shoes & boots for kids in need in our area.

Taking good care of your yard and garden in the fall can help cut back on the work you need to do in the spring and ensure your plants thrive next season. This hands-on workshop will present tips and techniques about fall gardening tasks, including splitting and transplanting perennials, aerating and fertilizing lawns, and planting trees.
