Regional foods coordinator, Brittany Bethel, will provide suggestions and solutions for eating healthy and locally-sourced food on a budget.   This workshop will provide an overview of why it’s important to eat local, will reference research done comparing the cost of local vs. non-local foods and will offer practical advice on how to eat nutritious, seasonal, local and affordable meals.

Each year during Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Week the Dubuque County Extension Council selects an outstanding member of the community to receive the Friend of Extension Award. This year’s honor has been awarded posthumously to Charles Smith, a life-long 4-H member and Extension Council volunteer.  Mr. Smith passed away unexpectedly while doing chores on January 22, 2014. Process, Inc. and regional event sponsors, The Greater Dubuque Development Corporation, the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque – Project Hope, and City of Dubuque – Circles Initiative will host the Upper Mississippi Bridges Conference on June 9-10 in Dubuque, IA.  The event is aimed at groups from across Iowa, Wisconsin, and Illinois working to reduce poverty in their communities and to create opportunities for all.
