Local county offices of ISU Extension and Outreach sponsor food safety certification courses for food service managers and employees. Three sessions are scheduled in throughout the region this fall. Dates and location are: September 11, Oskaloosa; September 29, Fairfield; October 9, Wapello; and November 20, Burlington.
Each class runs from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm with the exam to follow.
"We want food that is safe as well as tasty, but we know that food safety hazards and risks are prevalent in today’s world. Serving safe food is critical. These sessions teach food service workers about the safest way to prepare foods they serve as well as industry standards and their obligation to meet them," said Patricia Steiner, Nutrition & Health Specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach.
According to Steiner, the course content is based on the National Restaurant AssociationEducational Foundation's ServSafe® certification program and the Iowa Food Code. Participants will receive a copy of the ServSafe®Managers training manual and have the option of testing for certification.
