Extension in Des Moines County offers programs that support families, horticulture, 4-H youth development, business and industry, communities, agriculture and continuing education. Iowa State University Extension builds partnerships and provides research-based learning opportunities to improve the quality of life in Iowa.


 
We want to promote volunteerism in Des Moines County through our Volunteer NOW! Program. Volunteers can find local non-profits in need of volunteers and pledge their hours. Summer is almost here!  If you have a K-3rd grader we have a camp for them!  They will learn about gardening, butterflies and animals!

Des Moines County Master Gardeners Annual Plant Sale will be held Saturday, May 7, 2016 from 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM at the Troute Farm south of Burlington. Demonstrations by Master Gardeners.  Wide variety of  Perennials, Annuals, Herbs, and Vegetables, Garden Accessories, Door Prizes and refreshments!

The ISU Extension and Outreach Master Gardener program awarded 25 grants totalling $20,000, including one to maintain a donation garden for food banks in Des Moines County, to projects across the state of Iowa aimed at increasing access to healthy foods for families experiencing poverty.

ISU Extension and Outreach is partnering with University of Illinois Extension and University of Missouri Extension to bring the Nonprofit Management Academy to the tri-state area! You are invited to participate in one or all of the 12 sessions. CEU's are available, as well as the opportunity to earn a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Iowa State University.

September 23, 2015

Local county offices of ISU Extension and Outreach sponsor food safety certification courses for food service managers and employees.  The training will be held at Great Prairie AEA in Burlington on Wednesday, June 15, 2016. Each class runs from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm with the exam to follow.
