"Food Preservation 101" Workshop to be Offered June 10 in Manchester

Cindy Baumgartner, Nutrition and Health Program Specialist and Master Food Safety Advisor, will teach the basics of canning, freezing, and dehydrating food during the two-hour “Food Preservation 101” workshop to be presented from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on June 10. The workshop will be held at the Delaware County ISU Extension and Outreach Office, located at 1417 N. Franklin St. in Manchester.
Baumgartner says,“This is the perfect time of year to have a refresher course on how to safely preserve the delicious tastes of summer, whether the bounty comes from your garden, a local store, or farmers market!”
FREE dial gauge pressure canner testing will be offered between 5:00-5:30 pm. Individuals who attend the workshop will:
·         Be introduced to the latest, recommended methods  for preserving foods (boiling water and pressure canning, freezing, and dehydrating foods)
·         Receive a few canning supplies
·         Sample fresh salsa, prepared on site
·         Learn basic culinary knife skills to efficiently cut fresh produce
·         Take home a folder of excellent handouts, USDA-approved recipes, and other resources
·         Have a chance to win valuable door prizes
Pre-registration and pre-payment is requiredsince space is limited. Interested individuals must register to reserve a seat no later than Friday, June 6.
