4-H Hawk Engineers Win Clover Award

4-H Hawk Engineers Win Clover Award

Members of the Delaware County Hawk Engineers 4-H Robotics team won the Clover Award at the 2012 Bratney Robotics Challenge – Junior Division Competition held Aug. 10 at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines. The event included two separate challenges – a LEGO Mindstorms NXT Challenge, using the programmable LEGO robot – and a Junk Drawer Challenge, which tested the club’s engineering and teamwork skills by providing a novel situation and items commonly found in a desk junk drawer to solve a given problem.

The Clover Award was given to the club for exemplarity demonstration of 4-H values including teamwork, cooperation, generosity, responsibility, learning, working within space, time and materials constraints and showing respect for others.

Competing the day of the challenge were (left to right): Coach Alan Schnieders, Dakota Waterhouse, Kyle Edwards, Grant Borchardt, Alex Schnieders, Parker Ostrander and Coach Tina Ostrander.

The Hawk Engineers will go straight from the state fair challenge into preparation for this year’s FIRST Lego League contest. The team will starting working immediately on solutions for the youth robotics challenge competition to be held later this fall. The Hawk Engineers 4-H Robotics Club will be welcoming new members. If you are interested in robotics, consider joining this club. For more information contact the Delaware County ISU Extension office at 563.927.4201.
