2012 Farmers Tax Guides Available at the Delaware County Extension Office

Tax law changes that are of interest to farmers are outlined in the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) 2011 Farmers Tax Guide, now available through Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. The Delaware County Extension office has copies on hand, or the publication can be ordered from the Extension Online Store at www.extension.iastate.edu/store.  It highlights a number of 2012 administrative and tax law changes, as well as changes that will occur in 2013.

“Farmers use this publication as a guide to figure their taxes and complete farm tax returns,” said William Edwards, Iowa State University Extension economist. “The explanations and examples reflect the Internal Revenue Service’s interpretation of tax laws enacted by Congress, Treasury regulations and court decisions.”

In addition to making the 2012 Farmers Tax Guide easily available to farmers, ISU Extension also contributes to the Rural Tax Education website, a resource for information concerning agriculturally related income and deductions and self-employment tax. The website is available for farmers and ranchers, other agricultural producers and anyone interested in learning about the tax side of the agricultural community. The website, www.ruraltax.org, is hosted by Utah State University Cooperative Extension; contributors for the website are members of the National Farm Income Tax Extension Committee.
