4-H History in Delaware County 1919-2009 Celebrating 90 Years (Posted on 10/13/2009)
In 1919, the first 4-H clubs were organized in Delaware County. In 1919 – 1920, there were 7 clubs listed. Ninety boys were enrolled but only 21 completed a project.
In 2009, Delaware County has 339 members in grades 4-12 and an additional 25 CloverKids in two groups of Kindergarteners through third grades. There are 22 FFA members enrolled receiving the 4-H newsletter and eligible to attend project meetings and county fair. There are 67 club and project leaders in Delaware County.

Delaware County ISU Extension participated in the annual Senior Health Fair held last week (Sept. 29) at the Community Center in Manchester.
Livestock Producers Facing Explosion Hazards with Manure Pumping (Posted on 10/13/2009)
News reports have surfaced again detailing flash fires and explosions in livestock buildings while liquid pit manure was being agitated and pumped. Iowa State University Extension agricultural engineers say these episodes highlight the caution needed when agitating and pumping manure from pits beneath buildings.
Ornamental and Turfgrass Applicators Course Offered Nov. 4 (Posted on 10/13/2009)
The Delaware County Extension Office will offer the Ornamental and Turfgrass Applicators Continuing Instructional Course (CIC) for commercial pesticide applicators Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009. The registration fee is $35 before Oct. 28 and $45 after Oct. 28. To register or to obtain additional information about the CIC, contact the Delaware County Extension office by phoning (563) 927-4201.
How Do I Join 4-H? (Posted on 9/23/2009)
Joining 4-H is much easier than you may think. Anyone in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade can get involved. Clover Kids is a 4-H program for youth in grades Kindergarten through 3rd grade. 4-H Club membership is open to all youth 4th through 12th grade. Activities that you participate in will challenge your skills, and you will learn from other kids and adults that truly care about you and what you learn.
ServSafe® Classes to be Offered to Food Service Professionals (Posted on 9/11/2009)
Iowa State University Extension is offering several ServSafe® classes for food service professionals. ServSafe® training will provide knowledge every food service provider must know about food hazards and proper food handling practices in order to keep food safe and protect the establishment against the costly nightmare of a foodborne-illness outbreak. Participants will learn ways of prevention, regulatory requirements, and how to improve food quality.
