Mike Henderson New Iowa State University Extension County Director in Delaware County

Michael Henderson became the Delaware County Extension Education Director with Iowa State University Extension on April 16. He is responsible for the development and coordination of ISU Extension educational programs in Delaware County and administration of the county office located in Manchester. An Open House welcoming Henderson will be held at the Extension Office on Thursday, May 15 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

Baumgartner Baumgartner Participates In NEMS Training At Emory University In Atlanta

Cindy Baumgartner, Nutrition & Health Specialist for Iowa State University Extension Service, received a travel scholarship to participate in NEMS training (Nutrition Environment Measures Study) on the campus of Emory University, Rollins School of Public Health, in Atlanta, GA on March 13-15.

Container gardening is a hot trend in landscaping. It offers a wide variety of planting possibilities. The workshop will take place on May 19, 2008 at Landscapes by Child's Play from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Registration is limited.

“Ignite the Flame” is the theme for the 2008 Iowa 4-H Youth Conference, Animal Science ROUNDUP and CSI:Crops. Over 1000 youth will attend the conference to be held June 24-26.

Joining 4-H is much easier than you may think. Anyone in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade can get involved. Clover Kids is a 4-H program for youth in grades Kindergarten through 3rd grade. 4-H Club membership is open to all youth 4th through 12th grade. Activities that you participate in will challenge your skills, and you will learn from other kids and adults that truly care about you and what you learn.

The annual Delaware County Fair plays host to hundreds of 4-H and FFA exhibits from throughout the county giving us the opportunity to showcase some of the county’s finest youth. It is also home to great shows and entertainment and a fabulous place to spend time with family and friends.

Iowa State University Extension is offering several ServSafe® classes for food service professionals. ServSafe® training will provide knowledge every food service provider must know about food hazards and proper food handling practices in order to keep food safe and protect the establishment against the costly nightmare of a foodborne-illness outbreak. Participants will learn ways of prevention, regulatory requirements, and how to improve food quality.
