Farmland Drainage Workshop

Producers, landowners and others with an interest in farmland drainage are invited to attend the Farmland Drainage Workshop on February 10 in Manchester. The workshop will answer questions pertaining to drainage design concepts, economics and long term benefits of tiling, along with legal issues related to tiling and Iowa Drainage Laws.

Local Dairy Days Feature Profitable Dairy Practices – Feb. 1 in Ryan

Iowa dairy producers will have the opportunity to hear Iowa State University Extension Specialists share information on emerging dairy industry issues at the 2012 ISU Extension Dairy Days between January 16 and February 9 (Wednesday, February 1 in Ryan.)

2011 Farmers Tax Guides Available at the Delaware County Extension Office

Tax law changes that are of interest to farmers are outlined in the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) 2011 Farmers Tax Guide, now available through Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. The Delaware County Extension office has copies on hand, or the publication can be ordered from the Extension Online Store. It highlights a number of 2011 administrative and tax law changes, as well as changes that will occur in 2012.

Private Pesticide Applicator Classes & Test Dates

To become certified initially, applicators must take the exam offered by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS). Applicators may renew their certification by attending a private applicators’ continuing instruction course (CIC) each of the three years during their renewal cycle.

New Course Helps Farm Women Manage for Today and Tomorrow

Farm women can learn how to plan a successful farm transition through a four-session course offered by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and Farm Credit Services of America. “Managing for Today and Tomorrow,” will be held on Monday evenings Feb. 27 through March 19 in Ames and Shenandoah.

Second Farmland Drainage Workshop to Be Held Jan. 30

An ISU Extension and Outreach workshop will examine various aspects of farmland drainage on Jan. 30 at Big Ed’s Firehouse in New Hampton. The program that begins 9 a.m. and adjourns at 3:30 p.m. has been scheduled due to an overwhelming interest in a December workshop.
Annie’s Project Comes to Ralston

Plan to Attend the Great Plains Growers Conference

The Great Plains Growers Conference will be held Jan. 5-7, 2012, at the Fulkerson Conference Center on the Missouri Western State University Campus. The conference and tradeshow is a collaborative effort of growers associations and extension services from Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and South Dakota, and each year draws hundreds of producers from the region and beyond.
Central Iowa Expo Announces a Major Gift from Monsanto

Farmland Value Reaches Historic $6,708 Statewide Average

Average Iowa farmland value is estimated to be $6,708 per acre, an increase of 32.5 percent from 2010, according to results of the Iowa Land Value Survey conducted in November. This is the highest percentage increase ever recorded by the Iowa State University annual survey.
