Iowa State University Extension serves Iowans through six program areas: Agriculture and Natural Resources; Business and Industry; Communities; Families; 4-H Youth Development; and Continuing Education. Delaware County brings the University to you!

Each year, almost 800 young children participate in our county-wide safety education programs. With the assistance of the county’s FFA chapters, these programs use age-appropriate hands-on activities to help children learn how to place emergency 911 calls, “stop, drop, and roll” in case of fire, the importance of seat belts, and other valuable lessons.
-
The Delaware County Extension staff shared vital flood-related information with the public and local media when record record flooding caused widespread damage. More than 300 flood recovery packets were distributed, links to flood assistance were posted, and specialist consulted with flood-impact victims.
-
Over 400 people attend the Delaware County Master Gardeners’ popular Mondays in March educational workshops each year.
-
Master Gardener volunteers staff the Horticulture Hotline to answer questions and solve problems for gardeners throughout the growing season.
- Throughout the year, Delaware County Extension staff are available to find answers for questions on a wide variety of subjects such as health and nutrition, family money management, agriculture, controlling insects and other household pests, gardening, youth development, and many more.

Delaware County Extension Council
Extension Council members are elected by the voters of Delaware County to serve four year terms. They oversee the planning, preparation, marketing, and delivery of the extension educational program in the county. Every county in Iowa has an extension council. Extension councils provide, through a unique partnership with Iowa State University and other federal and state organizations, research-based, unbiased information and education to help county citizens make better decisions.
