On February 17, 2009 your current TV signal will be converted over to a digital signal. The change will free up bands of the broadcast spectrum allowing it to be used by broadcasters and public emergency teams. The digital signal will produce a clearer picture and better sound.
Many consumers will be impacted by the change, but they do not have to buy a new TV. Converter boxes will be available for individuals who have an outside antenna. The cost of a box is will range from $50 to $70. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), part of the United States Department of Commerce, will be issuing households a coupon for a $40 discount. A limit of 2 coupons will be available to consumers in 2008. Check the following websites after January 1, 2008 for information on how to apply:
