Let's Play!
Young Scientists
Children are natural scientists, born with a sense of curiosity
and desire to learn about their world. Fathers encourage their child's
learning because they know their interests, what attracts their
attention and holds it, and how they learn best. Girls and boys
both learn problem solving, math and language skills as they observe,
predict, explore, test, quantify and communicate about their discoveries.
- Teach your child observation skills with questions like: "I wonder where that ice on the steps came from?" "Why do you think the birds built their nest in this spot?" "Why do our legs stick to the seat of car and not to the couch?" "How do you think we could find out?"
- Let your child help you fix things. Teach them about measurements; length - short and long - by sorting screws, nails, etc; weight - heavy and light - by handing you tools, carrying construction materials; volume and fractions - more or less - by filling up cans, buckets, cups, with sand or water.
- Play guessing games - " What will happen
if I touch a bubble? How far do you think the red car will roll?
Will it go farther than the green truck?"
