Let's Play!

Leave a legacy! Sharing family stories can be fun, valuable, and hard to get started. Make a memorable story telling time at your Father’s Day gatherings.

• Prepare a list of questions. Ask open-ended questions. Avoid yes and no.
• Use these conversation starters: “Tell me about . . . What are your favorite . . . What do you remember about . . . Why did . . . How did . . . Who did . . .?”
• Ask about theses topics:
Stages of their life
Particular events
Family members
Places where they lived
Education
Occupation
Faith/spiritual topics
Historical events
• Memories can be stimulated by the senses – smell, sound, touch, sight, taste. Play familiar music, sing songs, provide objects, or photos for the person to respond to. Hold hands, dance or take a walk together.
• Get others in on the act. Invite all generations to ask questions and listen.
