| Let's Play!
Kids & dads learn more about each other when they are doing
something together. Talk while you work & play with each other.
Conversation Starters for Dads, Grand-dads and
Kids:
- When you were younger, what kind
of chores did you do in the winter time?
- Did you play in the snow the same way kids
do today?
- What do you like best about winter and
why?
- If you could live in any kind of climate,
where would you choose to live?
- A winter I especially remember was . .
.
Snow Science
* Get 4 small containers (butter tub size) and fill
3 with snow. Add 2 drops of food coloring to each container with
a different color in each tub. Stir the snow to make it turn red,
blue, yellow, etc. In the empty container, mix two of the different
snow colors together to make a new color. Experiment making new
colors by mixing the snow.
* Fill two small containers with snow and bring them inside. Have
your child play in one of them and let the other sit out. Time how
long it takes for each tub to melt. Which one melts faster? Why?
Test the temperature of the snow and the melted water with a thermometer.
Which how are they different? Why?
* Take some things outside for your child to play in the snow with
such as measuring spoons and cups, wooden spoons, plastic containers
(to mold shapes). How many tablespoons of snow makes a cup? Measure
water also. Is there a difference? Why?
