The days are getting longer.  Orchards are being pruned and the nice weather this week has all of us thinking about spring.  I hear apple buds are swelling at the Horticulture Station north of Ames and blueberry buds are swelling at my place in Des Moines.  Looking at growing degree days since January, the Southern 1/3rd of the state is slightly above average and the Northern 1/3 of the state is slightly below average for the year.  Warm temperatures are forecasted for the next 14 days which could put us well above average by the end of the month.
