If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there. This is an old Irish proverb with a lot of truth to it. Many well-meaning groups and organizations charge off into the sunset without defining where they're going. You need a road map before you begin the trip. Yogi Berra also summed it up well when he said, "If you don't know what you want, you might not get it."
After all was said and done, more was said than done. Many groups meet endlessly without ever translating ideas into a plan of action.
People are in favor of progress. It's change they don't like. (Mark Twain) It's human nature to resist change, but change is inevitable and must be recognized and addressed.
The best way to predict the future is to shape it. (Peter Drucker) The assumption behind planning is that it makes a difference; that the future is not inevitable, but can be altered if we have a vision of where we want to go and apply the tools to get there.
Hindsight is 20:20. It's relatively easy to look back and see what we could have done differently. The challenge is to look forward and not focus on past mistakes or paradigms.
