4-H Day Camp Offers a Variety of Themes
AMES, Iowa -- Summer may seem out of reach, but the time to register for Iowa 4-H Center day camp has arrived. Get started by checking out these day camps for youngsters.
The Iowa 4-H Center offers nine unique weeks of day camp for boys and girls ages 6 to 10 years old. Beginning June 6, each week offers a different theme including days filled with swimming, crafts and group games.
“From sports to insects to rock climbing, the day camp themes offer a variety of activities for every interest,” said Abbie Parker, Iowa 4-H Center program specialist. “Families and their camper can pick and choose from nine different themes during the months of June, July and August.”
Some examples of weekly themes include the following:
Buggin’ Out, June 6-10, offers explorations of the insect kind, a bug safari and a visit to the Insect Zoo.
Little Rock Climbers, June 27-30, is a short week of day camp for adventures on the climbing tower, ropes course and little zip line with safety learning that includes rope knots, harnesses and helmets.
Iron Kids, July 25-29, gives an athletic escape for day campers to stay in motion with games and sporting events.
Day Camp Plus offers the opportunity to extend campers’ fun. Four of the camp weeks can include a Friday night at camp with dinner, a night swim, a campfire program and a night in a cabin with other day campers and staff. The weeks that include a Day Camp Plus option are Silly Science, 4-H Camp’s Got Talent, Splash Bash and Iron Kids.
To view each week’s theme and dates, check out the 2011 Camp Brochure on the Day Camp website. 4-H membership is not required to attend any of the day camps; however, discounts are available for members and multiple week registrations.
“The day camps make it easy for kids to enjoy a camp atmosphere without completely being away from home,” Parker said. “We try to make it as convenient as possible for parents by providing a pick-up and drop-off service to nearby communities.”
Each day at the Iowa 4-H Center begins with pick-up from 7:15-7:45 a.m. and drop-off between 4:45-5:30 p.m. in the communities of Ames, Boone, Madrid and Ankeny.
Registration is available online on the Iowa 4-H Center website. The 2011 registration form includes day camp prices at the bottom of each column and additional payment information.
