Community and Economic Development promotes the vision to accommodate quality growth in communities across the state. Local business owners, community leaders and residents benefit from the research and expertise of our specialists.
Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Community and Economic Development (CED) program empowers communities to shape their own futures through research, education, community engagement, economic development, community planning and design.
The Community and Economic Development Program of Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will serve as an essential conduit between Iowa’s communities and the resources of Iowa State University through synergistic partnerships with private and public sectors for the betterment of Iowans.
Community and Economic Development programming is informed by the following values:
- Opportunities to educate and inform, to question and facilitate learning rather than prescribing answers and strategies to the client.
- Ongoing relationships with clients as a means to make informed decisions.
- Cooperation with others as we carry out our unique educational role in the community development process.
- The community change as a concept against which program impacts are measured.
