The Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Geospatial Technology Program is offering a geographic information systems (GIS) short course in 2014.
“Essentials of ArcGIS 10.1/10.2” is a two-day course that explores the latest version of ArcGIS Desktop software. Participants receive hands-on instruction from experienced GIS users and instructors with multiple years of experience, along with a set of newly revised and built upon tutorials of the program’s highly praised tutorials. The course is scheduled for 8:30–4:30 on January 9–10, 2014, and will be conducted at the ISU Extension Community and Economic Development Program offices at the ISU Research Park in Ames. However, courses can also be developed for your needs and delivered at your site or ours. Please contact us for more information or options.
Participants will learn the basic functions of ArcGIS 10.1/10.2 and be operational with the software by the end of the second day.
Topics covered include map making, data editing, data management, polygon creation, map editing, digitizing, printing, and exporting data and maps. Although designed for those with no GIS experience, the course has been valuable for experienced GIS users to improve their skills. Experience using Windows-based applications is recommended.
The standard fee is $500 per registration with discounts available for multiple registrations from the same agency, for repeat participants, for ISU affiliated personnel, and all students in general. Fees include course tutorials and data, handouts, one year license for ArcGIS Desktop Education Edition, snacks and beverages, as well as all software and hardware for instruction.
If two or more people from the same organization or repeat participants register for the same course(s) in this series, each registrant also will receive a 10% discount. An organization with three or more registrations will receive a 15% discount. There is an additional discount for ISU faculty, staff, and students.
Bailey Hanson, GIS analyst/programmer and Chris Seeger, ISUExtension landscape architect and associate professor of landscape architecture, will teach the short course.
Those who attend “Essentials of ArcGIS 10.1” are eligible for the following continuing education credits (CEUs): ASLA 10.0 hours general, and ASLA 2.0 hours health, safety, and welfare. (A request for AICP CM 14.0 credits has been submitted and authorization is pending.)
