These future scientists and engineers always are preparing for their next event — whether the Bratney Companies 4-H Robotics Challenge at the Iowa State Fair or the 2011 FIRST LEGO League challenge this fall.

Five of the horses that attended the National Cutting Horse Association Western National Championship in Ogden, Utah, on April 29 to May 8, are located at stables in Iowa. The good news is that there are no reports of clinical disease in any of these horses in Iowa.

Iowa 4-H'ers are using GIS-equipped mobile phones to map a bur oak savannah in the Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge. The 4-H’ers are one of four teams in four states that are carrying out GIS mapping with national wildlife refuges, fish hatcheries or other ecological services offices.
