C2C Waukon Visioning
Visioning for the Future
Just like many communities throughout the state of Iowa and the nation, Waukon, Iowa, is facing a variety of socio-economic and demographic challenges. To adapt to the changing economic and cultural climate, communities are working on a variety of initiatives to build economic, cultural, human and social capital. While the issues are specific to each community, the broad goal is to create vibrant and attractive communities that continue to provide economic opportunities and a good quality of life to its residents.
Through the Communities to Community (C2C) program, the ISU Community and Economic Development program is working with Waukon to identify its assets and capacity and create a vision and action plan for long-term economic growth and development.
The visioning process in Waukon consists of a number of facets, including community analyses—economic base study, retail trade analysis, and demographic profile; public input gathering through focus groups, a survey, and neighborhood meetings; and community design.
