CL320MPI: Records Management
Course Description:
This course will review the basic principles of records management and will suggest methods for developing and implementing effective records management in municipal clerks’ offices. The session will combine audio-visual presentations, discussions, instructor presentation and participant exercises. Participants will depart with a basic understanding of records management program in home municipalities.
Components of the class:
- What is records management?
- Defining the basic components of a records management program
- Appraising records to determine what needs to be saved and for how long
- Storing records – how to implement schedules, how to store materials, when and how to destroy materials
- Access issues – public records (what are they, how to identify them)
- Legal bases for records management programs
- Basic of electronic records issues – What are the challenges? What are the opportunities?
