Advanced Accounting (Accrual Accounting) and CAFR Preparation

The Office of State and Local Government Programs in Iowa State University Extension Community and Economic Development is offering two brand new classes in advanced accounting and comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) preparation. These two new OSLGP courses are ideal for those with accounting experience but new to the municipal arena or current staff trying to improve your accounting skills. Both courses are also eligible for IMFOA or IAMU certification credit.

Advanced Accounting – Accrual Accounting is a two full-day course to train those required to do accrual and year-end conversions when preparing for annual audits. The course is intended for individuals with basic knowledge of accounting while going in-depth on the specific rules, guidelines and practices within government. The combination of lecture, discussion and exercises help to ease the transition for individuals faced with these difficult, but essential tasks.

CAFR Preparation will instruct participants how to prepare a comprehensive annual financial report after the year-end accrual conversions are complete. The course will be one-day and will include formatting and data collection to meet the GFOA requirements for applicants to the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program.
