Utility Clerk Certification
Education Requirement:
- 50 hours of basic training (offered at the Iowa Municipal Professionals Institute)
- 25 hours of flex credits or the equivalent training in relevant areas (offered at the Institute OR through other acceptable training such as ATM. A relevant AA (15 flex credits) or BA (25 flex credits) can also be substituted.)

25 hours of required specialized course work required as listed below:
- Utility Accounting/Accrual
- Fixed Asset Accounting/Inventory
- Rule Making
- Utility Software
- Utility Trends
- Work Orders/Managing Property & Personnel
- Customer Service/Shutoffs
On-line Courses

Record Keeping
All attendance records for the IAMU Certification Program will be managed by the Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities database. However, prior course work through the Iowa Municipal Professionals Institute which may be applied to the Utility Clerk Certification program must be documented by the applicant.
