2015-16 Required volunteer training “Encouraging the HEART of Leadership”
Please don’t wait until the last minute to complete your training!   Volunteers who are club, project, or Clover Kid leaders, SESS leaders or assistant leaders are required to attend an annual training that strengthens their positive youth development knowledge and skills.   If you did not attend the December 3 or the January 20 training session, an online alternative is available  at http://fyi.uwex.edu/ncrvd/encouraging-the-heart-of-leadership/ . April 7, 2016

15 Clayton County 4-H members and 5 adult chaperones took part in a seven-day trip to Springfield, IL, Gettysburg, PA and Washington, D.C. They traveled with 4-H delegates from Chickasaw  and Fayette counties to visit national landmarks, to enrich their culture experinces and to deliver  summer safety packets for the needy. 

April 15, 2016

On April 9 43 Clayton County 4-H and FFA members weighed in 253 head for the 2016 swine derby show at the Clayton County Fair. This is up 13 youth and 69 head from last year. The Derby competition uses the rate-of-gain and lean-gain-per-day along with visual appraisal by the judge for evaluation. The 2016 Clayton County Fair Swine Show will be Saturday, August 6.

March 24, 2016

May 1 is the deadline for 4-H and FFA members wishing to participate in the 2016 special broiler class at the Clayton County Fair. The broiler project is an opportunity for youth to gain valuable experience in raising chicks to broiler-weight through partnership with a local sponsor. The sponsor will buy the chicks and the 4-H/FFA member raises the chicks and presents the best five birds to the sponsor as payment for the opportunity.  4-H/FFA member is responsible for whatever is necessary to raise the chicks to healthy broiler weight and processing of the birds.

Clayton County 4-H and FFA members who intend to participate in the market sheep and meat goat divisions for 2016 are reminded of the weigh-in date to qualify their projects.  The weigh-in will be Saturday, April 30 from 9-11:30 a.m. at the Clayton County Fairgrounds in National.
