Members of the Clayton County 4-H Livestock judging team have recently competed in competitions in Des Moines and Cedar Rapids. Members of the livestock Judging team are, Jacob Fitzpatrick, Dakota Lueken, Payson Kerns, Stacey Fitzpatrick, Maddie Boehm, Allyson Ruckdashel, Keaton Lane, Katie Orr, Maddie Medberry, Max Medberry, Kennie Orr, Nick Boehm, Luke Orr. The team is coached by Matt Gaul and Tim Orr.

The first contest was part of the Iowa Pork Congress in Des Moines sponsored by the Iowa Pork Producers and Iowa State University. Participants were asked to place three classes of barrows and do a keep/cull class for breeding purposes. The students finished in the top half of the contest and learned a lot about how to handle themselves in a large contest situation.

The second contest was held as part of the annual production sale for the Frye and Trienen families at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. This contest was all cattle, with 6 classes being placed and 3 sets of questions asked. Four members of the team were able to attend and again placed in the top half of the participants at the contest.

The final competition was held as part of the Iowa Beef Expo in Des Moines. Twelve participants attended, comprising 3 teams. Each participant placed 10 classes of cattle and gave three sets of reasons during the competition. There were 31 teams in the competition, our teams placed 10th -11th and 23rd overall.
