Extension to Offer Summer Day Camps for K-6th Grade Youth

Day camps offer the chance for hands-on experiments, activities, games, adventures, and most of all - FUN! This year Clayton County Extension and Outreach is offering a variety of day camps for youth completing grades K – 6. Camps will be offered in Edgewood, Elkader, Garnavillo, Guttenberg, Marquette, Monona, and Strawberry Point. Early bird registration deadline is June 1 and registration closes when the camp is full or one week prior to camp. New this year is an online registration process. You do not have to be a 4-H member to participate, so invite a friend and join the fun!

K-3rd grade camps for 2017 include
Build A Better World Through S.T.E.M. -Examine S.T.E.M. careers and learn how these jobs play a role in building a better world. Explore, build, create and design through Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Camps will be held on June 7, 14, & 21 at the Strawberry Point Library from 9:00 am-11:00 am and at the Edgewood Library from1:00 pm-3:00 pm. Camps will be held 9:00 am -3:0 pm at the Farmersburg Library on June 28 Guttenberg Library on July 17 and at the Monona Library on July 19.
Fizz, Bubble, & Goo- Come and explore the wonders of science by creating amazing chemistry experiments with everyday materials to watch them fizz, bubble and goo! Camps will be held 9:00 an – 3:00 pm at the Guttenberg City Park on June 19; Monona City Park on June 22 and at the Elkader City Park on July 10.
Wild Wetlands-Campers will get an inquiry based and hands on experience in a wetland habitat and learn about wetland diversity including water, plants, birds, and insects. The Wild Wetlands Camp will be held at the Driftless Area Wetlands Centre, Marquette on June 20 from 9:00am-3:00pm.
Dig Those Dinosaurs-Campers will learn about how dinosaurs lived long ago, compare themselves to the size of a dinosaur, go digging for fossils, hunt for dinosaur eggs, and make their own dinosaur craft. This camp is being offered at the Strawberry Point Civic Center on June 26; at the Monona City Park on June 27 and at the Guttenberg City Park on June 29. All camps will run 9:00 am -3 pm.
How Does Your Garden Grow?-Put on your chef’s apron and gardening gloves, it’s time to explore (and taste) the world around you while learning to go from the garden to your plate. Camps will be held at the Central School Garden on June 27, July 11, & July 25 from 8:00am-2:00pm.
Gizmos & Gadgets-Become an engineer while creating gizmos that spin, fly, and zoom and gadgets that whirl, pop, and wobble. Spend the day creating fun toys and games with friends. Camps will be held at the Strawberry Point Civic Center on June 13; Elkader City Park on June 19 and at the Edgewood City Park on July 6. All camps will be 9:00 am -3:00 pm.
 
4th-6th grade camps for 2017 are
Build A Better World Through S.T.E.M.- Examine S.T.E.M. careers and learn how these jobs play a role in building a better world. Explore, build, create and design through Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Camp will be held from 3-5 pm at the Garnavillo Library on July 5, 12, & 19.
Wild Wetlands-Campers will get an inquiry based and hands on experience in a wetland habitat and learn about wetland diversity including water, plants, birds, and insects. Camp will be held at the Driftless Area Wetlands Centre, Marquette on July 18 from 9 am -3 pm.
Discover Clayton County- Explore the hidden treasures of Clayton County as we investigate and learn about the history of our area while touring the countryside. The adventure will start at the Founders Park in Elkader at 9 am and conclude back in Elkader by 3 pm on July 13.
Power Up- Learn how the power of the sun is transforming the future. Try your hand at harnessing the suns resources and probe deeper into solar energy. Camp will be 9 am – 3pm at the Elkader City Park on July 10.
Air Voyage-“It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s a...drone?” Examine the world of flight and the science behind aviation. Build a rocket and fly a drone! Camp will be 9 am – 3pm at the Elkader City Park on July 20.
Righteous River- Fish and float the Turkey River with your homemade fishing pole and lure while learning to kayak. Take a nature hike and explore the riverbanks. Camp will be 9 am – 3pm at the Elkader City Park on July 24.
Super Awesome Adventure- Each week campers will embark on a cultural journey that includes the exploration of music, foreign languages, art, exercise, science, and history. This year’s cultures of focus include China, Brazil, Mexico, and Middle-Eastern Countries. Through hands on learning and cultural emersion you will explore the adventures of humanity. (Lunch provided with registration). Camp will be 10 am – 1 pm at the Elkader City Park on July 6, 13, 20 & 27.
